BGS Pupils Inspired by Bears Star

Bristol Grammar School is delighted by the enthusiasm shown by our pupils for our growing girls' rugby programme. This week, twenty-three girls, from Year 7 through to Lower Sixth, took part in a fantastic training session led by England and Bristol Bears Women’s player Delaney Burns.

The session, which focused on catch-pass skills, attacking shape, and non-contact gameplay, encouraged the girls to think tactically as a team, finding and exploiting space on the pitch. Delaney also delivered a kicking masterclass that quickly became a lively and fun-filled kicking game, much to the pupils’ enjoyment.

It was especially heartening to see so many Year 11 students taking part, despite being in the middle of their GCSEs. Their commitment and energy were impressive, and two pupils from this year group particularly caught the coach's eye as players with real potential.

We are proud to see such growing interest in girls’ rugby and look forward to building on this momentum. With inspiring role models like Delaney and such a talented and enthusiastic group of players, the future of girls’ rugby at BGS is looking bright.

Want to get involved? Interested pupils should speak to Head of Rugby Mr Thomas to find out about upcoming opportunities for training and playing in the Autumn term.
