Bristol Grammar School is delighted to announce the appointment of Heidi Hughes as the new Head of BGS Infants and Juniors. She will take up the post from 1 September 2019, upon the retirement of Peter Huckle.
Heidi is currently the Head of the Royal High Junior School in Bath, a post she has held since 2012. Before this, she was Deputy Head of Royal Russell Junior School in South London and taught at the Tanglin Trust School in Singapore – where she rose to become a member of the Junior Leadership Team – and at the British School in Manila. A keen sportswoman, one of the main attractions of working overseas was the opportunity to indulge her love of sports and to try out some new ones, including diving.
Raised in Bristol, Heidi gained her degree in Geography from the University of Liverpool. She initially worked as a graduate trainee for Marks & Spencer before switching to education – following in the footsteps of her mother, a Headmistress, and her father, a lecturer at Bristol University. After completing a PGCE at UWE, Heidi taught at a village school in Hambrook, South Gloucestershire, before moving overseas. Whilst abroad, she completed her Master’s in Education Management at Bath University.
Headmaster of Bristol Grammar School, Jaideep Barot, said “We are delighted that Heidi will be joining us as the next Head of BGS Infants and Juniors. She impressed hugely during our thorough selection process, with her experience, warmth, and clarity of vision shining through. We look forward to working with her as she builds upon the outstanding work of Peter Huckle, and leads the Infant and Junior School through the next exciting phase in its history.”
