Celebrating our sporting stars

In this morning’s whole school assembly, we celebrated the fantastic sporting achievements of four of our pupils, Cristiano, Amelia, Pia and Reuben.

Over the past weeks, Cristiano (Y11) has been representing Great Britain at the Kickboxing World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. He competed at the highest level in two individual categories and was honoured to be selected by the GB coaches to represent us in the team competition as well. By the end of the week-long competition Cristiano had become World Champion in one of his individual categories, runner up in the other and helped the 4-man team to become World Champions as well. This is an amazing achievement making him the current British, European and World Champion in his weight and age. Many congratulations Cristiano!

Amelie (L6) spent much of her summer competing for Great Britain in Artistic Swimming. She travelled to Belgrade with the senior squad, where her team of eight earned a bronze medal in the "Free Team" contest—an incredible accomplishment, especially as Amelie is only 17. Since then, she has also competed in the Junior European Championships in Malta and the Junior World Championships in Peru alongside Pia.

Pia (Y11) has made remarkable strides in Artistic Swimming. Selected as one of only four girls from the UK to join the Junior Squad, Pia was also one of two athletes chosen to compete at the European Championships in Malta and the Junior World Championships in Peru. This is a tremendous achievement at such a young age, especially as a newcomer to the sport. Pia continues her extraordinary trajectory, securing her place as an elite athlete.

Reuben (L6) competed in the School Games National Final hosted by Loughborough University. This is held every two years as a mini-mini-olympics. Reuben was selected along with four other triathletes to represent the South West against other regional UK and Ireland teams. The triathlon related competitions were divided into heats and final for aquathlons (swim 350m/run 2.4k), and the next day a skills bike course (1.8K) and a pursuit bike race (8K). Reuben won all his individual events, taking the gold medal, and also helped the SW team to take bronze in the triathlon relay. Earlier that week Reuben had won the Eton Eliminator style triathlon competition for his age category in the national Super Series and, on Saturday just gone, he came first in his age category in the Grand Final of the British Triathlon Super Series.

Our congratulations to them all on the success their hard work and dedication has earned them. We look forward to following them all on their future sporting journeys.
